15:00-14:45 GMT+3 DATA FOR BACKTESTING MT4

Post by STEVEN CARTER »

i have attempted to download the Tickstory data for the EURUSD DAILY BUT WHEN I BACKTEST AT 99.90% MY PREVIOUS MT4 EA PARAMETER RESULTS ARE GONE AND THE DOWNLOADED DATA FROM TICKSTORY IS STILL DISPLAYING THE 00:00 TIME DATA. HOW CAN I OBTAIN AND BACKTEST THE TICKSTORY EURUSD DAILY GMT+3 DATA FOR THE 15:00/15:00 GMT+3 TIME PERIOD?

Hi Steven,

It's not quite clear what the issue is here however if you have exported Tickstory data to a MT4 terminal (say EURUSD), then this data will always be used to test in the Strategy Tester. If you would like to test with the original MT4 broker data and/or a dataset with a different exported timezone, then you will need to set up a separate MT4 terminal to test with. Each terminal can have separate set of EURUSD data but not the same terminal.

If this doesn't answer your question, it would be useful to have some more information such as some screenshots so we can assist further.

Thanks.

I have a Broker utilizing a GMT+3 TIME ZONE {ST. PETERSBURG, MOSCOW} as stated to me. i wanted my daily trading via; AUTOMATED EA to "BEGIN" at the NEW YORK/LONDON OVERLAPP. but every attempt to backtest via Tickstory Exporting usig the 15:00/14:45GMT+3 time as a DAILY trading time displays nothing. And if i DISPLAY IN GRID FORM "ALL" OF THE TIMES ARE 00:00 GMT HOW CAN I SPECIFICALLY BACKTEST FOR THAT OVERLAPP AS A STARTING POINT FOR MY DAILY EA TRADING?

Hi Steven,

If you need the data shifted to reflect "New York Trading Hours", then there is a selection at the very top of the time-zone selection box to do this. FYI, all daily bars will start with 00 hours which is the start of every daily candle (after the time-zone has been shifted accordingly). For example, if the data has a GMT timestamp of say Tue 05:00 GMT, this would be converted to Wed 00:00 New York time and would be part of the Wednesday's candle.

If this still doesn't answer your question, could you please omit the reference to your EA when describing the issue as we don't know what it does. Please refer only to the chart itself and what you're expecting to see. Screenshots are the best way to illustrate the issue.

Thanks.

Hi Steven,

Let's firstly make sure you are getting 99.9% modelling quality on your back-test. To do this, please ignore your custom EA and use a standard EA like "MACD Sample" which is included with every MT4 installation. When you are testing, please only use this EA as it will allow us to determine if your export & back-testing process is correct.

Next, could you please confirm that you have gone through our introductory video on how to back-test with MT4 (turn on Closed Captions by activating the Youtube "CC" button for further descriptions). Please follow all the steps carefully.

If you are still not getting 99.9% modelling quality after that, our FAQ describes the reasons why this might be the case.

Please let us know how you go.

Thanks.
